SOULiVERSE
Souliverse is based in Southern Oregon. The group was born from a production called, "I Have A Dream" created by the Craterian Theater's Music Hall program in Medford, OR, under Executive Director, Stephen McCandless After performing together, the cast realized their amazing chemistry and with the support of Producer, Doug Warner, decided to continue their musical collaboration. The band consisting of seasoned professionals, who have peformed with notable headliners worldwide, first performed together in February of 2016. The group has also appeared for the Oregon Shakespeare Festival Greenshow and for Private Events. The opening act for Souliverse concerts is the band, Jeff K & Overtones. Together their concerts are out of this world fabulous!
About The Musicians (alphabetically)
David Bolen, Drums
David is a versatile musician who has spent years behind the drum kit. He has performed at The Venetian Resort in Las Vegas, Montery Blues Festival and Britt Festival. He has been seen with Grammy nominated multi-platinum selling rock and jazz guitarist, Craig Chaquico and singer-songwriter Jack Johnson. In the contemporary jazz group, RazzaMoJazz, which David co-founded, he was joined by Grammy Award-winning saxist Brandon Fields (Tower of Power, Rippingtons), and notable guitarist Jeff Pevar (David Foster, David Crosby, Kenny Loggins, Ray Charles). He has also shared the stage with Earth, Wind & Fire and as a member of the Rogue Suspects, has opened for Michael McDonald, Maceo Parker and Peter Frampton. BolenonDrums.com
Jennifer Davis de Puglia, Vocals
Jennifer has always been heavily influenced by the sounds of the church. Her mother raised her to be there anytime the doors were open, and it was there that she found her heart’s calling. Her father exposed her to the rich and diverse sounds of R&B, jazz, funk, blues and big band. There were many nights where refrains of “A Kiss to Build a Dream On,” and Louis Armstrong’s mesmerizing horn, would keep her awake until dawn, and in those quiet hours she knew that she too, wanted to make music that could minister and inspire, long after she had stopped singing.
Gordon Greenly, Sax
Southern California native, Gordon Greenley, began playing at age 12. He began private instruction and shortly thereafter, began playing professional jazz and theater gigs. As a student in Los Angeles, Gordon found many opportunities to study and perform with renowned musicians such as Wayne Bergeron, Ronnie Cuber, Frank Emilio Flynn, Larry Harlow, Bobby Shew, and Gary Foster. Gordon continued gigging around the Sacramento area until 2005 when he began playing on cruise ships. Gordon played on cruise ships for both Holland America Line, and later, Princess Cruises. Returning to land in 2010, Most recently, Gordon has been performing with Oregon Shakespeare Festival and other musical acts.
Don Harriss, Musical Director, Keyboards ("I Have A Dream")
This keyboardist and computer whiz has drived his unique sound from a diverse background that includes classical training, '60's Haight=Ashbury psychedelia, and stints touring and recording with rock idol Pat Travers (Black Pearl). Harriss honed his rock and roll chops playing with Ronnie Hawkins (The Hawkes, The Band), Lydia Pense (Cold Blood), Andy Latimer (Camel) and others. This Top Ten Billboard recording artist/composer has also composed six instrumental CDs, as well as many corporate soundtracks for Apple Computer, Intel and others.
Jack Hopfinger, Guitarist
Jack has recorded and performed in the Los Angeles area and the Northwest for many original acts, solo artists and cover bands, varying from rock, R&B, funk, Latin, Jazz, and country. Jack recently opened for Los Lonely Boys, and the legendary Robben Trower, and John Mayall performing his originals with a trio at The Rogue Theater in Grants Pass. Jack joined “Survivorman” Les Stroud at a benefit for a library in Grants Pass, where they performed many of Les’ original material in an acoustic trio. Jack continues to freelance and teach music in the Rogue Valley and surrounding areas.
Bishop Mayfield, Vocals
Bishop is currently appearing with noted and Southern Oregon based guitarist & songwriter, Dave Storie. He is currently in studio recording with platinum record producer Sylvia Massey (Tool, Tom Petty, Aerosmith, & The Black Crows) at Radio Star Studios. His studio recordings included work with Prince. He has toured with or opened for such greats as Albert Collins, B.B. King, Martha Reeves & The Vandellas, Tower Of Power, Jr. Walker & The All-Stars, Charlie Musselwhite, Ike & Tina Turner, Milo, Sugar Pie Desanto, John Lee Hooker, James Brown, Robert Cray, Graham Central Station, Bo Diddley, Etta James, Sonny Terry & Brownie McGhee, The Neville Brothers and Esther Phillips. He has performed at many noteworthy venues over the years, including The Monterey Bay Blues Festival, The Mission Ranch, The Keystone Korner and Biscuits & Blues.
John Taylor, Keyboards
As a musical director, keyboardist and composer for over 30 years, John Taylor has worked with stellar artists such as Jennifer Lopez, DeBarge, Rick Astley, and Exposé, to name just a few. He is most known for his work as conductor and keyboardist with Cirque du Soleil's "O" at the Bellagio in Las Vegas. John moved to the Rogue Valley in 2005 to realize his dream of creating a youth-based musical theater "where ALL young people are cast in a professional-quality production, regardless of the level of experience or talent." The Teen Musical Theater of Oregon (TMTO), now the youth theater program for Craterian Performances, is in its' 7th season.
John's career as a keyboardist and composer has included touring with 80's super-group, DeBarge ("Rhythm of the Night"), appearing in the backup band and playing on the soundtrack in the Jennifer Lopez film, "The Wedding Planner," and writing a hit song for 90's English pop-star, Rick Astley, "Never Knew Love," that was in the Top 40 on the Great Britain / European charts. In addition to his writing and recording for others, his debut solo CD, "Moonlight", was critically acclaimed in Los Angeles. John's technical and musical abilities allow him to create the symphonic sound-scores heard exclusively in TMTO productions, effectively recreating a "virtual orchestra" with his computers and synthesizers, giving the audience and cast members alike the sense of having a live orchestra accompany the TMTO performances.
Randy Scherer, Trumpet
Randy attended Berklee College of Music in the mid 70’s and performed for the “Hair” revival tour in 1976 and Carnival Cruise Lines in 1978 to earn money for school. In 1980 he landed the jazz chair position for Norwegian Cruise Lines on the SS Norway, backing stars such as Jack Jones, Vic Damone, Frankie Valli, Phyllis Diller, and many others. From 1981 – 1992 he served in the USAF Band Program. Getting out of the military in Alaska, Randy continued to perform and total of 22 years, private teaching, and doing clinics for local schools. Upon moving to Oregon in 2006, Randy has performed with the Rogue Valley Symphony Orchestra, Rogue Valley Opera, Camelot Theater, Oregon Shakespeare Festival, and in 2007 returned to the cruise industry; and has worked for Celebrity Cruises, Azamara Cruise Lines, Norwegian Cruise Lines, Regent Seven Seas Cruises, and most recently P&O UK/Carnival Cruises. All ship contracts consisted of backing Guest Entertainers and performing for Production Shows in a wide variety of musical styles.
Jade Chavis Watt, Vocals
Jade is a local performer and member of the Rogue Valley Gospel Group. She has sung back-up on the Britt stage for both Lyle Lovett and Trace Adkins. She has been seen on the stage at the Camelot Theater in the “Spotlight On” shows about Johnny Mercer, Etta James, Nat King Cole, Blues Singers from the 1920’s and Hoagy Carmichael. She also enjoyed performing as a guest artist with the Teen Musical Theater of Oregon as Muzzy in Thoroughly Modern Mille, and with Craterian’s Next Stage Repertory Company in its world-premiere production of Old Time Traveling Radio Show.
Lisa Yriarte, Vocals
Lisa has lived in Oregon most of her life and at age 13, she won first place at the Wrangler Country Showdown held at the Britt Festival. She was an active member in choir and choral groups throughout high school. Lisa was rated the best score of :1: two years in a row at the S.O.U. soloist competition in 7th and 8th grades. In 1992, Lisa was 2nd runner-up first band at the age of 18, singing popular rock and pop songs. In 1992, Lisa joined Ashland’s The Electomaniacs singing blues, funk, Motown, and chart-topping songs. In 1995 she joined In Flight, a well-known top 40 band, and continued singing with them until 2000. She enjoys singing and currently performs with the local bands Living On Dreams and Not Too Shabby.
Donnie Yance, Bass Guitar
Donnie started playing the bass and studying privately at age 14. He is honored to have toured with many popular bands on the East Coast, including Moment’s Notice, Suspect, Touchdown, Funkestra, Encore, and two Gospel bands, His Own, and First Love. Locally, he has played and composed original music with the band Infusion (InfusionUSA.com), which in 2012 produced Under the Sun, a CD of original music and which opened for Earth, Wind, and Fire at the Britt Festival in summer of 2012. Presently, he is the bassist in the local band Jeff K and Overtones, which gigs at many wineries throughout Oregon and California.
